News @ Kings TheatreCheddar Arts News from Gill ScardThe New Year season of Cheddar Arts is well under way and we’ve already had two successful Cinema Nights. We’re very excited about our live events, which we believe to be three of our strongest evenings yet. On Monday, 6th February, we are delighted to be holding another “Evening of Brass”. Last year was such huge a huge success that repeating it was an easy decision. This year our top class professionals are an all male quintet called “ONYX”. BBC Music Magazine has described them as probably the “classiest brass quintet in the country”. They have devised a lovely programme of classical and popular music and we are delighted that they will be supported by The Cheddar Valley Music Club under the wonderful direction of Anne Higgs. This amazing lady has been the guiding force behind the training of our local youth brass players for the last 30 years and has inspired many youngsters to enjoy music. Her top twelve pupils have been invited to play alongside “Onyx”, a real honour and many more of her junior players will also be playing their hearts out on the night. It is a big night for them to be playing alongside such marvellous musicians and we hope you can come along and support this wonderful event. Special ticket prices are £8.50 for adults and £6.50 for school children. 7pm for 7.30pm start. Bar & Raffle. On Thursday, 23rd February, the wonderful actor Roger Llewellyn is bringing his One Man Show to the Kings Theatre. Robert portrayed Sherlock Holmes in a BBC adaptation a few years ago and has since toured the country with this superb production of “The Death and Life of Sherlock Holmes.” Rave reviews have followed him on his tour of this play so do come and see a fine actor in a fine role. Tickets £10/£9 concessions. 7pm for 7.30pm start. Bar & raffle. Then on Thursday, 22nd March, it’s another coup for Cheddar Arts - “Behind the Lens” with Doug Allan. Doug has been David Attenbrough’s Chief Underwater Cameramen for all of his hugely popular BBC Natural History series, including his latest, the fabulous “Frozen Planet”. Come and see Doug showing his favourite footage on the big screen and hear his stories about his amazing career. Tickets £12.50 and £10 for over 60s/school children. 7pm for 7.30pm start. Bar & raffle. ADVANCE NOTICE: TICKETS ARE ON SALE EARLY FOR TWO PRODUCTIONS IN OUR SUMMER SEASON. WE ANTICIPATE BOTH THESE SHOWS WILL BE A SELL OUT, SO EARLY BOOKING IS ADVISED. Saturday, 14th April - Richard Herring. The return of Cheddar’s favourite Stand Up Comedian with his latest (and his parents say "his best!") show, "What is Love Anyway?” All Tickets £13.00. 7pm for 7-30pm. Bar & raffle.
