On Wednesday 8th November 2017, the Year 11/Sixth Form hockey team played their first fixture of the year against their fierce rivals, Wells Blue.
As a newly formed team there were initial worries about their performance as a new group but compromises were made over positions and the girls started with a positive mind-set.
They started with a strong attack within the Blue School's defensive third. With subs rolling on and off throughout the half a great break from Imi and Cara resulted in a narrowly missed goal. The defence worked tirelessly to keep the ball out the 'D' and Rachel saved some amazing shots from the opposition. As the whistle blew for half time it was 0-0.
The Blue School came back fighting in the second half and scored within the first few minutes. The girls continued to tirelessly work at getting the ball back and were rewarded with multiple short corners. Unfortunately all tries were again narrowly missed. Soon enough Wells scored their second goal; however this didn't stop the forwards Lotte, Lottie and Katie from giving it another go at a goal. Within the last few minutes and great pass lead to Hannah Wyatt getting 1 back. The whistle blew and the score stood at 2-1 to Wells.
After hands had been shaken and cheers had been said the players of the match were given. Cara Ellis was awarded this from Wells due to her hard work playing multiple different positions throughout the match.
The newly formed team worked exceptionally well together and every player had an amazing game. Wells Blue may have won this match but this won’t stop the girls from giving it another good go next game.
