New Year 9 Students assume new ambassadorial role
24th January, 2017 by J Owens
27 Year 9 students attended a special inauguration tea party last week to celebrate their shiny new position of responsibility here at Kings.
These students henceforth have the honoured title of Student Ambassador and were presented with a badge in recognition of their revered new role in the Academy. To apply for selection they had to write either a letter of application or fill out an application form explaining why they would make a good Ambassador.
Year 9 Leader Mrs Gray was delighted with their reflective responses that showed they had really considered the qualities and expectations of an Ambassador; including being a role model to other students, showing guests around the Academy, and ultimately, representing their Academy. One student wrote in her letter: "I am hardworking and dedicated, I won't let you down; when I am allocated a job I will complete it with 100% effort."
Many of the students have already helped out as tour guides at the Year 8 open evening in the Autumn Term. But this was their first experience of applying for a position of responsibility, which gave them opportunity to promote themselves. Another student listed her main strengths that she believed to be useful for the role as: responsibility, respect, capability, appreciation, role modelling, reliability, peer mentoring, buddying and being friendly and caring towards others.
Mrs Gray praised them all for their efforts in being selected and emphasised this was a supportive role to help their fellow students and an influential role as peer models in demonstrating good attendance, behaviour and uniform.
Assistant Headteacher Ms Hobbs presented them all with a badge and talked about her experience as a leader at Kings and how she greatly valued her position and also how this experience for the new student ambassadors could inspire them as the leaders of the future.
