Chess Kings make their moves
15th May, 2017 by Jude Owens
This half term, in certain quarters there has been an aura of intense, silent concentration for the Academy's chess aficionados participating in the Delancey UK Schools Chess Challenge.
The first round was played here at the Academy with students each playing seven games. Well done to the best four students: Simeon Coton, Josh Mullin, Otakar Polak and Adam Rowley who all qualified to go through to the next round at Millfield School last weekend (Sunday 7 May 2017).
It is wonderful to report that Simeon won his age group, and qualified for the Gigafinal (semi-finals) in Twickenham. We wish him every continued success.
All the students really enjoyed themselves, testing their skills and playing against the best of Somerset Chess players, and learned lots of clever new moves. All four boys are in the top 20% chess players in the country. Congratulations!
A big thank you to LRC Manager Mrs Knutson, and IT technician Bob Chadderton, who accompanied the quartet on the day, and for all their support and encouragement.
Plans are afoot to organise challenge matches against Churchill Academy.
