7th September, 2017 by Jude Owens

The waiting was over at the end of last term for Year 9 artists at Kings to find out who had won the 2017 Rotary Young Artist Competition.

Students were tasked with creating their best design on the theme of "Composition" in four categories: Art Drawing and Painting; Photography, both with a local or Somerset connection; Textiles on the theme of Vintage; and Still Life Painting.

Sponsored by chartered accountants Four Fifty Partnership, the award ceremony was held in July at the Strawberry Inn, Draycott when the winners were announced and presented with voucher prizes.

Well done to the following students for their beautiful artwork: Art Drawing and Painting: Bettine Harris (First), Marishelle Harris (Second) and Samantha Penfold-Garrett (Commended); Photography: Nick M (First), Luca Hervada (Second), Nibiya Nirmalarojan (Commended); Textiles: Heather Scott (First), Ruth Day (Second) and Ruby Lunn (Commended) and Still Life Painting: Marishelle Harris (First), Aimee Wilson (Second) and Elisha Gill (Commended).

Thank you to the sponsors and Head Judge Richard Acreman and Subject Leader for Art Ms Rebecca Weaving for inspiring the students in school.
