Kings' Students Run to Victory in the Mendip Area Cross Country League
16th January, 2018 by Jude Owens
Last Wednesday (10/1/18), Kings’ top runners competed at the Mendip Area Cross Country championships at Millfield School with other local school teams.
Braving the still wintry elements, Year 9 Grace Ashurst was the first to race in the junior girls, and ran over 3.2km, coming in 5th. The junior boys, Ben Connelly and Max Helps were the next to run in the largest field of runners on the day and competed over 3.8km in which Max produced a great run coming in 7th and Ben fought hard in the mud for 18th place.
The final two runners were Year 10 Ruth Day and Emily Murray who competed in the intermediate girls over 3.8km. This was a highly competitive race and the first lap pace was very fast, and both girls paced themselves well and were rewarded with Ruth finishing 2nd and Emily 4th.
All five runners have now qualified for the Somerset Schools County Championship at Yeovil athletics track on Saturday (20/1/18).
Subject Leader for P.E. and House Activities Mr Carl Bennett said:
“All five students performed outstandingly and did themselves proud and on behalf of the P.E. Department and everyone at Kings, we wish them every success in the next round.”
