International Success for Former Kings Student
13th April, 2018 by Jude Owens
Former Kings of Wessex Academy student Jessica Cooksey is an inspiration to her fellow peers and will be remembered all the more fondly at her old school.
Jess has reason to be proud of herself as she has successfully gained representative honours in being selected by England Rugby for teams to play matches in the UK and Europe over the next few weeks. Jess is currently part of Winscombe RFC and plays for the U18 section, and to date she has represented her schools, Hartpury College, Somerset County and South West Regional rugby teams
Jess has now been selected as part of the England U18 Talent Development Group XV to play Wales in the Principality Stadium, Cardiff next Wednesday (18 April 2018) when she will be part of a squad of 25 young players and has been named to compete in a friendly game after attending a series of six training camps around the country.
This will be followed at the end of April when Jess, with 11 other English girls, will travel to France to represent England in the European Rugby 7s Championships in Vichy. This prestigious tournament was won last year by the England team and this year forms part of the qualification process for the Great Britain U18 Youth Olympic 7s team to play in Argentina later in the year.
Commenting on her success Jess’s Head Coach Gareth Waterfield said:
‘This is incredible news…I am very proud of the Winscombe Warriors section and a massive congratulations to those who have been selected to play for England U18s. All of them have worked so hard this year and deserve their chance. Not bad for a village club and hopefully more international players to come in future years.’’
All the staff and students at Kings wish Jess every success in this exciting sporting achievement in her chosen sport and are very proud of her.
