28th June, 2018 by Jude Owens

Two Year 11 athletes from The King of Wessex Academy are enjoying a very successful summer season after they competed in the recent South West Schools Championships.

Ewart Jackson-Voyzey secured third place on the podium with a jump of 12.41 in the triple jump and Abi Peake obtained two National Standards in the 100m and 200m sprints running 12.2s and 25s, and was placed second in both races. Abi has now been chosen to represent Somerset at the National Championships in Birmingham in July and she also received an award for County Best performance after breaking the County record in 12.28s. A first since 2009 and her name and school are on the record pages of the website and she is currently ranked 11th in the UK.

Executive Headteacher Gavin Ball said:

“This is a wonderful achievement as I am aware the competition was very high with Abi and Ewart competing against the other State and Independent Somerset schools. This demonstrates great skill and stamina and I wish Abi and Ewart every continued success!”
