Florence Triumphs in British Dressage Summer Regional Competition

17th July, 2018 by Jude Owens

Year 11 student Florence, from The Kings of Wessex Academy, added another success to her list of accolades when she recently won the British Dressage Summer Regional Competition, which now qualifies her for the National Championships at Stoneleigh in September.

Florence’s triumph is particularly commendable as only the winners of these regional competitions qualify for the biggest dressage championships of the year, and she was the youngest qualifier for the championships. Florence had made the long six hour drive northwards to Somerford Park Farm in Cheshire because she and her family will be on holiday when the closer regional event is scheduled.

There is yet more. Still riding on Dylan, last weekend Florence won the Pony Club Area Open Competition and will be representing Pony Area 15 and her pony club Polden Hills at the Pony Club National Championships in August. Also in August, Florence has also been selected to represent England in a Home Countries International competition for British Dressage Youth.

Executive Headteacher Gavin Ball said:

“This is wonderful news for Florence – so many triumphs that testify to her dedication and tenacity in dressage. She is a credit to herself and to Kings and we are very proud of her!”

Next year Florence will be studying for the Diploma for Sporting Excellence (Equestrian) at Hartpury College; which involves distance learning, riding ‘camps’ and mentoring from top trainers.
