Showing Some Character for World Book Day

13th March, 2019 by Jude Owens

Students at The Kings of Wessex Academy might have thought they had stepped into the imaginary world of books last week for the 2019 World Book Day when some of the staff dressed up as book characters to promote literacy and a love of reading.

There was the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, Little Red Riding Hood, Phileas Fogg from “Around the World in 80 days,” the Three Little Pigs, James Bond and the elusive Where’s Wally? And many more.

Awards were presented for the best group to the Science Department who dressed up as the heroes (and villains!) from Peter Pan. Whilst the best individual costume was awarded to Teacher of English Mrs Kerry Egan for her portrayal of the gloomy, deserted at the marriage altar Miss Havisham from Charles Dickens “Great Expectations.”

Executive Headteacher Gavin Ball thanked staff for taking part and bringing to life the joy of books and reading at Kings.
