The Rotary of Mendip Young Artist Competition 2019 at Kings

Year 9 budding artists busily crafted and created their entries for the competition during the spring term. The Judging took place in early May with Rotary Members Richard Acreman and Janet Travis joining the faculty to make some tough decisions as to the final winning selection.

The Rotary hosted the award ceremony on Thursday 12th July at the Strawberry Inn, Draycott. The winning students were accompanied by their parents who praised the support from the Rotary to promote young artists. All agreed the celebration and recognition of their individual talents gave a real boost to building their confidence in art, photography and textiles. The Year 9 young artists were awarded vouchers and art prizes to further encourage their artistic skill set with the overall winner being Maisy Loader for her painting of a Somerset landscape! The overall results we as follows:

Category 1: Somerset Landscape painting
Acrylic and water colour

First: Maisy Loader, Second: Nell Tucknott

Category 2: Photography
Themes: Somerset Landscapes, Wildlife and Macro

First: Millie Court, Second: Emilie Peake, Highly recommended: Edith Tucknott

Category 3: Still Life painting
Acrylic and water colour

First: Susi Fox, Second: Poppy McGibbon – Shells and peeled orange

Category 4: Textiles
Themes: Somerset Landscapes, Wildlife and Still life.

First: Gracie Mae Adams, Second: Maisy Loader, Highly commended: Poppy McGibbon
Overall winner 2019: Maisy Loader
