PTA Scores for Students
29th Apr, 2008
The Kings of Wessex School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is continuing to prove that fundraising can be both fun - and fruitful for the school's young people. Funds raised from selling refreshments and traditional raffle tickets at the numerous school events have been recently transmuted into additional equipment for the Art, English and P.E. Departments.
The PTA generously bought the Art Department four embroidery feet machines for the Bernina sewing machines for Textiles students. Considered the Rolls Royce of Embellisher machines - by those-in-the-know in the world of Art the machines are being used by GCSE and 'A' Level students to produce stunning embroidery pieces of Textile work, including pieces using dissolvable fabric.

The English Department bought a new Canon Powershot A560 camera already being used by Year 9 students to demonstrate bias in their newspaper articles to support their different writing perspectives; whilst Sixth Form English students use the camera to work on representation and image analysis. The camera is also instrumental in recording students at work for use in presentations. The Department also acquired two new digital voice recorders for interviewing and recording transcripts and finally, two new replacement tripods have been acquired for Media Studies.

Thanks to PTA funds the P.E. Department is currently sourcing new teaching and learning software for the theory aspect of the curriculum to bring the subject to life.
Commenting on the PTA's continued commitment to Kings and their young people Headteacher Chris Richardson, said, "This is wonderful news and I thank our PTA for generously giving their time and enthusiasm to our students as we all work together to enhance the enjoyment of their learning experience and inspire them to achieve their best."
The Kings of Wessex PTA is composed of parents of students currently in the school who meet every half term, as well as actively supporting events during the school year. In addition, all families of the school are encouraged to donate money to the PTA Enrichment Fund. Departments at Kings are invited to bid for funds for consideration by the PTA in order to enrich the work of the school.
Quotation from Jane Ratcliffe, PTA Chair, "On behalf of the PTA, as parents I like to think that we are very much an integral part of our support of the school. We are always pleased to welcome parents to our meetings and to help at events in any way they can.
