Liquid Faith Quenches Students' Thirst

3rd Jun, 2008, by J Owens

Club Tropicana came to The Kings of Wessex School one rainy lunchtime at the end of last half term. Hosted by the school's Christian Union the "Liquid Faith" non-alcoholic cocktail bar was shaken and stirred by representatives from Sedgemoor Deanery visiting schools in the area as part of a safe drinking campaign.

The room was alive with the heady aromas of fizzy, fun-sounding cocktails, including Traffic Lights, and Fuzzy Navel, brimming over with flavours of strawberry, peach, coconut, and lime and vibrant decorations to match.

One student sipping from a multicoloured glass, equipped with cocktail umbrellas and fancy straw, remarked that it did not matter that the cocktails were non-alcoholic. It was intoxicating enough to enjoy the imaginative and fruity, lush concoctions.

Sarah Blake, Voluntary Development Worker, Sarah Newman and Karen Lane from the YMCA were kept busy at the bar with a stream of students interested in tasting a non-alcoholic drink. The students were also given a leaflet entitled "Frank" warning them about the importance of safe drinking especially with the arrival of summer and easy drinking at events, such as barbecues.

Kings' Christian Leader Joanna Slade said, "This was a really valuable event and I am grateful to the Sedgemoor Deanery team for visiting us and showing our young people that fun drinking does not necessarily have to involve alcohol."
