Banks Strikes Gold in Monte Carlo

28th Sep, 2009, by Jude Owens

Year 10 Kings of Wessex student Connor Banks did Britain proud at the Biathle World Championships held in Monaco on Sunday 20 September 2009. The athletes were rewarded for their hard training gaining a number of medals for Great Britain. Their nine Golds, three Silvers and 11 Bronzes positioned the team once again, at the top of the Medals Table.

In Connor's age group event he was met with fierce competition from many countries with strong contenders from South Africa, Italy and Germany. At the end of the first running leg Connor entered the water in fifth position. But after a strong swim he had pulled himself into third position and then resulted in an extremely exciting run with victory snatched from the South African - only metres from the finish line!

The final three positions were Gold to Connor Banks, Silver to L. Groenewald from South Africa and Bronze to Chris Perham from Britain.
