Dancing the day away

23rd Feb, 2010, by Jude Owens

Year 10 girls at The Kings of Wessex were dancers for the day when they worked with professional Dance Theatre Company "Pretty Good Girl". This is the fifth year of the annual collaboration with the P.E. Department and the innovative, narrative based choreography dance company.

This year the students worked with Company Director Louise Barrett and her sister, who is also a dance teacher and performer, Helen Barrett. The students learned new choreography and the latest contemporary steps. They also created their own duets and trios and learned to create dances for larger groups.

After a day of practising and perfecting, at 5.00pm the dancers' friends and relatives watched a stunning performance with two full length dance pieces on the stage - complete with lights and sound!

Commenting on the day Louise said: "The girls were brilliant. Each year the young people get more and more focused and this year was a pleasure they were all keen to learn as much as possible and develop their own ideas and choreography. The girls work so well together and are a credit to the school."
