Kings Students Put Through Their Paces at Mock Interviews

Year 12 Sixth Form students at The Kings of Wessex Academy donned their suits and ties for practice interviews aimed at instilling essential
skills for their imminent (and infamously daunting) university or job applications. In preparation, the students had each created a CV and
Personal Statement to be scrutinised by interviewers, volunteers from the community including Mendip Rotarians, Governors and parents, who
suggested improvements and gave helpful tips for next year’s undergraduates and professionals.
To make the experience as realistic as possible, candidates tailored their application for their chosen careers - including
forensic science, social work and even film directing. Although many students were initially apprehensive, they were quickly put at
ease by the friendly nature of the interviewers.
One of the interviewers and parent Paul Fowler has helped with the interviews for many years and he emphasised that the key
to a good interview is confidence and enthusiasm and that the best interviewees are those who know what they want and can justify it.
Mr Fowler said “This year’s interviews have been to a very good standard and it is impressive to see the effort the students have put in. That’s what makes it so enjoyable for us.”
