School Achievements
Since 2001, we have been a Specialist Technology College, and this has given the school additional funding to aid the raising of
achievement in four curriculum areas: Maths, Design Technology, Science and Information Communication Technology.
As headteacher Chris Richardson pointed out at the time, "the advantages for the whole school will be enormous.
It will give us much needed extra resources and additional staffing which will create very real benefits across the board.
It’s a really wonderful opportunity for the school. It will place the school and the community at the cutting edge of technology,
and give our young people the skills they need to take full advantage of the new opportunities that are constantly being made available."
The Kings of Wessex School has received a national Sportsmark Gold Award from Sport England in recognition of its commitment to
Physical Education and sport. The school is one of 50 schools in England receiving the Sportsmark Gold Award.
This is the second time that the school has received the award which recognises the school's sporting achievements.
Sportsmark Gold is a national accreditation programme, which sets a range of challenging targets. Particular areas of focus
include the provision of a well-balanced Physical Education programme, an out-of-school-hours programme that
offers all students access to a range of opportunities,
and encouragement to help students make links to sport in the community.
Legendary England and West Ham footballer and Chair of Sport England, Trevor Brooking,
praised the school for ensuring that Physical Education and sport remain a priority.
To quote, "this school is to be applauded for its consistent efforts in making sure youngsters are keeping fit and healthy. They recognise the value of physical activity, not just in terms of health and fitness education, but also how it can help pupils to achieve in other subjects. I believe that sport can also help combat problems such as social exclusion and youth offending."
The Arts Council of England Artsmark Award recognises schools who demonstrate a commitment to providing opportunities
across all the arts from Drama to Music, Design to Media and Dance to Sculpture. The scheme also
requires schools to work in partnership with artists and arts organisations.
Peter Hewitt, Chief Executive of the Arts Council of England, said, "we are delighted with the overwhelming response
Artsmark has once again generated from schools across the country. Artsmark celebrates the importance of the arts in
education and rewards the commitment of schools to introducing children to the arts at an early age. We hope this interest
will stay with them all their lives. All the schools displaying the Artsmark badge have demonstrated that they are concerned
with the wider development of young people, not only with academic success. This will benefit not only the children, but
society as a whole too."
The Kings of Wessex School has achieved the National Healthy School Standard, and praise has been given to the quality of its teaching,
and to the emotional, physical and learning environment provided for students. The award celebrates the high
standard of provision in personal, social and health education, and covers healthy eating, physical activity and emotional health
and well-being.
The DfES School Achievement Award is given in recognition of sustained improvement in exam performance over recent years. The awards are paid directly to staff in recognition of their achievement.

Assessing, recording and reporting schools and pupil achievement.
Research shows that Investors in People in schools leads to:
- A more structured approach to employee development, with more focus and better targeting and school
development (involving all employees.)
