Enrichment

A full Sixth Form education contains more than just good passes in key exams. This is why we place a very high priority on our Enrichment Programme – the opportunity for students to broaden their range of talents and interests.

Why Enrichment?

Enrichment goes beyond academic or vocational qualifications and is something that higher education institutions and future employers actively look for. It helps you stand out and can be a deciding factor in who they choose to take on.

The Benefits

  • Recognised by employers – shows commitment and initiative.
  • Develops transferable skills – such as resilience, communication, leadership, and proactivity.
  • Opens new opportunities – try something different, discover a hobby, meet new friends.

What Can I do?

Our Enrichment offering covers a range of areas and includes some of the following:

Academic & Career Development

  • EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) – carry out an independent project on a topic that interests you.
  • Access to Bristol – experience university-style learning and explore higher education.
  • Super Curricular Talks – deepen subject knowledge beyond the classroom.

Community & Volunteering

  • Peer Mentors – support other students and build responsibility.
  • Paired Reading – help younger students improve their literacy.
  • Volunteering – contribute to your community and make a difference.

Leadership & Personal Growth

  • Student Leadership – represent your peers and develop confidence.
  • Debating or Public Speaking – build confidence in expressing your views. Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) – develop resilience, teamwork, and independence.

Sports & Wellbeing

  • Sport – join a team or club to stay active and social.
  • Fitness Sessions / Gym – improve personal health and wellbeing by using our Kings Fitness and Leisure facilities.
  • Wellbeing and Mindfulness – boost focus and reduce stress.

We encourage students to lead. If you don’t see an activity that appeals to you, why not start your own? Previous student-led activities have included:

  • Art Enrichment
  • Ultimate Frisbee Competitions
  • Reading Groups

How will I participate?

At Sixth Form, enrichment is built into your timetable to make sure you get the chance to grow beyond the classroom.

When does it happen?

  • Every Wednesday afternoon in Year 12 is set aside for Enrichment.

How does it work?

  1. Getting Started – We begin by focusing on the key skills you’ll need as a Sixth Form student, helping you make a smooth transition and develop strong study habits.
  2. Your Choice – After this, you’ll get to choose from a wide range of enrichment options, from academic opportunities to leadership roles, volunteering, sport, wellbeing, and even creating your own activities.
