Film Studies
Film Studies A Level is a fantastic Course that combines the academic with the creative.
Discover what influence and impact cinema has over the spectator and the world while sharpening your academic skills. You’ll learn about a wide range of films and have a go at producing your own short film.
It will enable you to:
- Develop a framework for critical analysis of film texts.
- Study lots of interesting films from a variety of cultures and periods.
- Acquire practical production skills.
- Extend your research, comparison, discussion and writing skills.
You will learn through watching many films, and a variety of practical activities, research, essay writing, reading, as well as theory.
You will explore the history of US cinema from Silent Era to 1990, and two key European film movements. Students will also study critical approaches to film: analysis of contemporary British and US film, exploring documentary form, world, independent and non-US/UK English language cinema.
Film Studies complements other Arts/Humanities subjects and offers diversity if you are studying science Courses. Students who have studied Film at university have gone on to work in Journalism,
the Music Industry, Television or Film Production, or new media technologies like Web Design.
SPECIFIC COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Specific Course Requirements – GCSE Grade 5 or above in English Language or English Literature. A genuine interest in film and ideally some practical experience with digital photography and video.
