Philosophy and Ethics
This subject is highly recognised by the top universities because it is unlike any other course. Whilst most courses focus on specific areas of knowledge, Philosophy is focused on developing the skills necessary to be successful.
Philosophy and Ethics at A Level is designed to help you to develop an interest in Philosophy, Ethics and Religion, and to take critical thought and written argument to a new level of academic rigour. It establishes a critical approach to current controversial ethical issues along with an enquiring attitude towards traditional philosophical arguments. The Qualification this leads to is an A Level in Religious Studies.
It enables you to investigate different perspectives, question arguments for the existence of God, and assess the practicality and effectiveness of religious ethical theories. You will establish independent learning, an enquiring mind, and the ability to problem-solve and think outside the box. You can improve communication skills, strengthen research, and reflect and evaluate to produce coherent and sophisticated arguments.
The Course follows three separate components, each having equal weight:
- Component 1: A study of Religion.
- Component 2: Philosophy of Religion.
- Component 3: Religion and Ethics.
As an A Level, Philosophy, Ethics and Religion is well respected by Russell Group Universities as it requires the academic rigour indicative of many degree courses. This A Level can support/enhance study of either Philosophy, Law, Medicine, Journalism, Religion or Social Sciences at university, as well as being a good support to almost any other subject being studied. There is also an educational trip to New York offered to Philosophy and Ethics students.*

SPECIFIC COURSE REQUIREMENTS
GCSE Grade 4 or above in English Language and GCSE Grade 5 or above in RPE or a Humanities subject. We welcome students who have not studied GCSE RE. Whilst it is not necessary to be religious, willingness to accept an intellectual challenge is required.
