Outstanding 2011 GCSE and A-level Results
GCSE Results
There were scenes of delighted celebration at The Kings of Wessex Academy on Thursday, as Year 11 students yet again harvested an outstanding
set of GCSE results. We are very proud to be celebrating another recording breaking achievement with 91% of students in Year 11
achieving five or more A*-C grades in their exams – which completely eclipses the previous best and compares very favourably with
the national result said Assistant Headteacher Christian Hughes. In addition, the percentage of students achieving five or more A*-C grades
including English and Maths set another new record of 74%. This superb achievement comes hot on the heels of the academy’s excellent A-level results.
Mr Hughes praised the efforts of this year’s Year 11 students and their teachers. He said, “This has been a truly exceptional year
for The Kings of Wessex Academy. These young people have worked incredibly hard to achieve these magnificent results which reflect well on the
commitment and hard work of both the students and their teachers”.
As always, the headline figures do not tell the whole story as there were many achieving far beyond this, with a remarkable 108 students
obtaining 12 or more A*-C passes. The pass rate for all exams sat was 99.7%, with 32% of these being awarded the top grades of A*/A.
This compares very favourably with the national result of 23% for passes at A*/A.
The Kings of Wessex Academy would like to extend sincere and warm congratulations to all students who took their GCSE’s this summer.
They have brought enormous credit to themselves, their families, the school and their town or village. We look forward to welcoming the vast
majority back to our successful sixth form in September and in being able to celebrate their continued and future success in their academic career.
A-level Results
Students at The Kings of Wessex Academy are celebrating outstanding A-level results. The A-level pass rate this year was an impressive 98% and
over one quarter of all the A-level grades awarded were the top grades of A and A*. Kings’ students have once again excelled, their results highlight
their hard work and they rightly deserve both recognition and praise.
Headteacher Chris Richardson commented: “It is a privilege to be able to join with our students in celebrating their magnificent achievements.
The A-Level results this year are once again a testament to the hard work and commitment of both the students and their teachers.
The young people at the Academy can be proud of what they have achieved here and I wish them well on their next steps, whether that be at university,
in work or on a gap year. These young people are a credit to themselves, their families, their communities and the Academy.“
